![]() My journey as an artist began with creative writing. I used to turn to writing as my primary means of self expression, but with the passing of time I recognized the need for a more tangible outlet. I love the tactile experience of creating jewelry, and I like to think my jewelry tells a story--a complement to my background as a writer. I often begin with a concept or feeling that I would like to convey and then use colors, shapes and textures to weave the tale in gems and wire. I am driven by a passion for color and a love of gemstones--both perfect and imperfect. I believe the true artistry of designing jewelry comes from taking the simplest of materials and transforming them into a spectacular piece of wearable art. I enjoy using AAA flawless gemstones, but I also find beauty in humbler gems. I often choose stones with a "wabi-sabi" character--baroque pearls, gemstone chips, and handcut shapes with asymmetry and inclusions. These qualities add to the diverse visual interest that characterizes my work. I believe that Jewelry is the ultimate expression of personal style and should be individualized and distinctive, making the wearer feel beautiful and special. Well-designed jewelry will be enjoyed season after season-- without looking out of date--and being expertly crafted will be ensure that it be cherished for many years to come. I have been designing jewelry for over twelve years, featuring my works at galleries and art shows. My website was launched in 2009 in order to make my designs available to a wider audience. ![]() (c) 2009 Emily Woodward,
